Any foods not commonly consumed in the EU before 2007 have to go through the novel foods clearance procedure. The FSA’s panel, which meets up to three times a year, deals with applications sent via the UK.
The agency is expecting to make the appointments – which are unsalaried and usually run for three years – in November.
